Very scarce white metal cap badge, with two lugs to the reverse. Condition very good.
Raised in 1942 by Popski(Vladmir Peniakoff) a Russian refugee, he served with the Libyan Arab Force where he was ordered to form a Libyan Arab Commando to gather intelligence in the area east of Benghazi, the Jebel Akhdar. He acquired his nickname from the LRDG(Long Range Desert Group)with whom his small force had trained. Sabotaging enemy installations and raiding enemy supplies they destroyed over 30 planes, 115 vehicles,captured over 600 prisoners and destroyed nearly 500,000 gallons of petrol.Many of the badges were produced by local craftsmen in Cairo and better quality badges later produced in Italy when the force moved there in May 1943.
