United States of America.Army Good Conduct medal with knotted clasp denoting additional awards. Circa.1941
Circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced ball for ribbon suspension; the Obverse with an eagle, wings spread, perched on a sword resting on a book, circumscribed ‘EFFICIENCY • HONOR • FIDELITY’; the Reverse with a five-pointed star above a ribbon, inscribed above and below ‘FOR GOOD CONDUCT’, within a wreath of oak and laurel; on original ribbon with bronze knotted clasp denoting additional awards. Condition very good.
The Medal was instituted on 28 June 1941 to be awarded to soldiers completing three years blameless service after that date. The criteria were amended on 31 March 1943 allowing award for one year’s wartime service. The Medal was designed by Joseph Kiselewski (1901-1986). This good vintage example was probably awarded during World War II or the Korean War.
